Maggot is an enemy in Hollow Knight. The enemies are creatures that have succumbed into The Infection and has turned them into hostile beings who are determined to kill anyone who crosses their path. Acquiring the Hunter's Journal allows The Knight to acquire additional notes on an encountered and defeated enemy such as bits and pieces of lore, information on how to deal with the enemy, and information on The Hunter.

Weakest member of the kingdom of Hallownest. Generally looked down upon and forced to do menial labour.

Consisting mainly of sweet fat, these helpless creatures make excellent provisions for long journeys. Best roasted over open flame. If they try to bargain for their life, just ignore them. They have nothing to offer.

    • I LOVE these poor little guys and their heroic brother False Knight. How the heck are they “enemies”? The False Knight and his family (the innocent little “maggots”, which are actually large beetle grubs/larvae based on their obvious appearance to real beetle larvae, and the fact that they “provide excellent provisions” according to the Hunter) deserve justice for how horribly they were treated. Treated like dirt, hated by ignorant brutes that deemed them worthless, devoured and/or forced into slavery... It’s no wonder False Knight longed to protect them - he had every right to defend his endangered family. His story in the game is very deep and incredibly sad... Makes me sick that the game encourages you to kill the innocent, frightened, defenseless brothers (who were mourning for their protector), and gives you no choice but to kill poor False Knight.... His completely innocent little brothers having a funeral for him... False Knight isn’t evil. He’s one of the most valiant warriors in the game, and I wouldn’t ever deem him “false”. I don’t care if he stole Hegemol’s armor - Hegemol should have been protecting these lowly guys from their innumerable enemies! They’re just children (beetle larvae) for Heaven’s sake! Hegemol literally sleeping on the job while innocent larvae die, the jerk... I wish you could save and protect False Knight and his family... Killing these little guys for a damn journal entry is absolutely diabolical, and I immediately lost all respect for the Hunter and despised him after reading what he wrote about them... No alternative quest and achievement to help them? Same exact deal with Myla. Freaking heartless Team Cherry...

....I think on my next play through I'm starting soon I'm not gonna kill em. I like them and only killed them for the charm. It's kindof horrid that we have to wipe out a species to get a journal entry
